Israel and Hamas are engaged in a conflict following a series of deadly attacks launched by Palestinian militants from Gaza.

Israel and Hamas are engaged in a conflict following a series of deadly attacks launched by Palestinian militants from Gaza.

Israeli embassy spokespersons disclosed on Monday that the death toll among Israelis has reached at least 900, with the majority being civilians. Additionally, approximately 2,500 individuals have been reported as wounded, according to IDF international spokesperson Lt. Col. (Res.) Jonathan Conricus, who spoke with CBS News.

Among the casualties, more than 250 Israelis lost their lives at the Supernova music festival near the border with Gaza when militants opened fire on the crowd. Disturbingly, Israeli officials have also reported that Hamas fighters took over 100 hostages, including women, children, and elderly individuals, who were apparently transported into Gaza as captives.

The White House has confirmed that at least 11 U.S. citizens are among the deceased, while an unknown number of Americans remain unaccounted for. U.S. officials suspect that Americans may also be among those who were taken hostage.

Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip, Israel's retaliatory airstrikes have resulted in the loss of at least 765 lives, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Tragically, this figure includes at least 140 children, with an additional 4,000 individuals suffering injuries.

This coordinated, multi-front attack from the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by Hamas, has occurred almost 50 years to the day since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. It marks a significant and alarming escalation in the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
